Innovation Unique Jhuggi Lighting Project (UJALA)
  • UJALA Lighting Project is an initiative of All India Citizens’ Alliance for Progress & Development (AICAPD) a Non-Governmental Organization, to bring some light into the lives of migrant labourers who otherwise live in perpetual darkness. The children of these migrant labourers live in temporary hutments which lack basic amenities like clean water, hygienic surroundings and light at night.

  • AICAPD besides helping these children with the UJALA lighting project is also running INNOVATION MOBILE SCHOOLS, INNOVATION NIGHT SCHOOLS, INNOVATION MODEL SCHOOLS and INNOVATION MOBILE LIBRARIES to provide Basic & Elementary Education to help them come in the mainstream of society.

  • Dr. Roopa Gir, Adviser, Schlumberger, USA and also an Alumnus of IIT Roorkee, was kind enough to gift 35 solar lamp panels for 35 needy families of the migrant labourers that had been identified by the Volunteers in one of the Surveys of UJALA Project, in 1st Phase. Dr. Gir, during her visit to inaugurate the 3rd Innovation Mobile School in Bhondsi Village, Sohna Road, Gurgaon was deeply shattered to find the children of these migrant labourers living in deplorable conditions. She felt that it was an irony of fate that children of those labourers who helped build the sky scrapers around the Millennium City lit with a Mega Watts of Electric power themselves lived even without a Municipal Lamp Post.

  • This innovative UJALA project was formally launched by Shri T. K Sharma, IAS, Commissioner, Gurgaon Division, Govt. of Haryana. And, the Solar Lamp Panels were given away to the above families. The function was held on Sunday the 24th April, 2011 at the Innovation Mobile School campus, near Badshahpur Toll Plaza on Sohna Road (Jail Road crossing).
